The King Island Long Table Festival grew from a very special wedding ceremony in 2003.
A local lad married his bride with friends travelling from interstate and overseas, many guests a stranger to each other. The guests were coming together, led by their hosts they worked together helping each other to prepare for a wonderful wedding. The visitors and local people gathered ingredients and made preparations together.
During this time of hunting, gathering planning and cooking strangers became friends and when the party came together to enjoy the wedding feast on the Sunday friendships had developed, a shared camaraderie prevailed, and bonds had been forged.
Our bride and groom, co-founders of our festival, Cynthia and Paul Daniel reminisced about the special relationships created by sharing experiences on their special day, with Melbourne chef Lucinda MacDougal in 2008. It was then that the seed for a King Island Long Table Festival began growing.
Led by Lucinda, the first Festival was held in 2009 with a small group of family and friends. Since then our festival has developed; we have been hosted by talented local Chefs Stephen Russell and Nic Cooper and in 2015 by Melbourne's Pure South Dining.
2016 brings our 8th Festival and we are excited to be hosted by Mr Thomas Dicker from Tasmania. Read more about Tom here.
We hope you will join us this year and enjoy the wonderful friendship, hospitality and delicious produce King Island has to offer.
